Performed by computing the maximum inscribed disc within a particle. The algorithm developed is exclusive OCCHIO. It is extremely robust, allowing 500 NANO to compute real size distribution curves with unrivalled accuracy.
Thanks to its robustness, the elongation measurement obtained from 500 NANO, is computed from one minus the ratio between inertial ellipse axes.
It is based on the convex shape made by a virtual rubber band fitted on each particle. It is defined like one minus the ratio between convex area and real area of the grain.
Defined like the ratio between the blunted surface by the entire surface on the grain, this parameters measure acute asperities for each particles.
It is based on a very accurate measurement of local curvature and takes into account the fact that blunt asperities are more significant than very acute ones. The roundness index is the expression of maturity in an abrasion process.
